He studied Horn at The University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Siegfried Hammer as well as studying Chamber Music with Karl Kolbinger and Piano with Ansgar Janke. Franz was appointed as hornist in the M\u00fcnchner Rundfunkorchester in 1987, and in 1994 as Associate Principal. He later moved to the Sinfonieorchester der Bayerischen Rundfunks\u00a0 in 2005\/2006, before becoming Associate Solohorn with the Bayerische Staatsoper in 2007.
